A one-time event is a single event on one date — a concert, fundraiser, or one-off show. Creating it builds a Shopify product with a variant for each ticket type, so customers buy through your normal Shopify checkout. For events with several dates or a repeating schedule, use a multi-date or recurring event instead.

Requirements: The Event Ticketing app installed. One-time events work on every plan.

Create the event

  1. In the Event Ticketing app, go to Events and start a new event.

  2. Under Event type, choose One time.

  3. Fill in Event details:
    • Event name — also names the product in Shopify.
    • Location — choose an existing location, or Add new location.
    • Date — set the date, Start time, and End time. Check Ends on a different day if it runs past midnight (e.g. starts 9pm, ends 2am).
  4. Add at least one ticket under Tickets with a Name, a Price (enter 0 for free), and Inventory (how many are available to sell).

  5. Check the Shopify preview on the right — it shows the product and variants that will be created.

  6. Click Save. The event syncs to Shopify as a product.

Once synced, the event is live and sellable through your storefront and checkout.

Don’t edit the product’s options, values, or variants directly in Shopify — that breaks ticket issuance. Manage the event from the Event Ticketing app instead.

Optional settings

These apply to any event type and are configured the same way — see the linked guides:

  • Ticket type (under a ticket’s Advanced settings) classifies attendees on the scanner. It defaults to your account’s default ticket type, so you can leave it unless you want a different classification.
  • Group size, purchase limits, and ticket fees — also under a ticket’s Advanced settings.
  • Total capacity and customer self-exchange — under Additional options.

FAQ

Why did creating an event create a Shopify product?

That’s how tickets are sold — the event is a Shopify product, and each ticket type is a variant. Customers buy it through normal Shopify checkout, and the app issues tickets on purchase.

Can I edit the event’s product in Shopify directly?

No. Don’t add or edit options, variants, or SKUs on the product in Shopify — it breaks ticket issuance. Make all changes from the Event Ticketing app.

How do I make a free event?

Set the ticket Price to 0.

Can I change the date after creating the event?

Yes — edit the event in the app and save. The change syncs to the Shopify product.
