There are two ways to scan tickets at the door: the native iOS Check In app (offline-capable, iPhone or iPad), or the Check In Tickets extension inside Shopify POS (iOS and Android, needs internet). This guide explains the trade-offs and sets up the iOS app. For the Shopify POS extension, see Sell and scan tickets via Shopify POS.
Requirements: The Event Ticketing app installed. To scan barcodes, attendees also need a ticket attachment (PDF or Apple Wallet) — see Apple Wallet and ticket delivery.
Which tool to use
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad, possibly no reliable wifi at the venue | iOS Check In app |
| Android device | Shopify POS extension (the only Android option) |
| Already running Shopify POS at the counter | Shopify POS extension |
The iOS Check In app is offline-capable with realtime online sync, so it keeps working when the venue wifi drops. It also supports the built-in camera or rented laser barcode scanners. It runs on iOS only — for Android, use the Shopify POS extension.
The Shopify POS extension runs inside the Shopify POS app on iOS and Android, and checks in tickets through a live connection to Event Ticketing, so it needs an internet connection while scanning.
Set up the iOS Check In app
-
Install Guest Manager Check In from the Apple App Store (search the app name, or open it from the App Store listing for app ID
1460267612). -
In the Event Ticketing app, open the Overview page and find the Scan a ticket onboarding step.
-
Click Scan with our iOS App. A panel shows your Access code and PIN.
-
Open the Check In app on your device and sign in with that Access code and PIN.
The app is now connected to your account and ready to scan tickets at the door.
Set up the Shopify POS extension
The scanning tool inside Shopify POS is the Check In Tickets extension. After it’s added to your POS layout, the home-screen tile appears as Scan Ticket. Opening it gives you two scan modes:
- Lookup Order — scan a ticket to pull up the whole order, then check in tickets individually.
- Check In Ticket — scan a ticket and check it in immediately.
For the full install steps (publishing to the POS sales channel, adding the tile, and enabling POS order processing), follow Sell and scan tickets via Shopify POS.

FAQ
Can I use Android without Shopify POS?
No. The native Check In app is iOS only. To scan on Android, install the Shopify POS app and add the Check In Tickets extension.
Does the iOS app work without internet?
Yes — the Check In app is offline-capable with realtime online sync, so it keeps scanning when venue wifi is unreliable. The Shopify POS extension, by contrast, needs an active internet connection because it checks in tickets through a live connection.
Can I plug in a laser barcode scanner?
Yes, with the iOS Check In app — it scans with the device camera or with rented laser barcode scanners.
The POS extension says “No scanner available.”
Check the device’s camera permission and any Bluetooth scanner connection. The extension shows this message when neither a camera nor an external scanner is detected.
Where do I get the access code and PIN for the iOS app?
In the Event Ticketing app, open Overview, find the Scan a ticket step, and click Scan with our iOS App — the access code and PIN are shown there.
