A regular attendee is either checked in or not. A tally is an open-ended counter you increment at the door — useful when one person arrives with several guests, or when you want to track head counts by category instead of adding everyone as an individual attendee.
You define your own tally types — for example Guest, or a breakdown like comps and discounted covers. When someone arrives with four guests, you record the count against the right tally types instead of creating four attendees.
This is common for nightclubs and promoters running a guest list: track that an attendee was allocated two comps and one discounted cover, and arrived with two guests.
Requirements: An event. Tally types are set up on a computer before you can record them at check-in.
Set up tally types
You configure tally types on a computer, in the event’s design tools. They cannot be created from the scanner app.
-
Open the event and go to Design and setup.
-
Open the Tally template section.
-
Add a tally type for each thing you want to count, and give each one a Name (for example, Guest, Comp, Discounted cover). You can also apply tags to a tally type.
-
Click Save.
Your tally types are now available at check-in.
Record tallies at the door
You record tallies on the iPad scanner app, against an attendee or against a whole list.
-
Open the attendee profile, or open a list from the Tallies menu.
-
Find the Tallies section.
-
Tap the add control and enter the count for each tally type.
The counts are saved and roll up into the event’s check-in totals.

FAQ
How are tallies different from regular check-in?
A regular check-in is a yes/no state for one attendee. A tally is a count with no upper limit, so one entry can record several people or several categories at once. Use a tally when you need a head count rather than a list of named individuals.
Can I create a tally type from the scanner app?
No. Tally types are configured on a computer in the event’s design tools. The scanner app records counts against the types you have already set up; if none exist, the app shows that a tally template is missing.
Do tallies count toward the event’s check-in numbers?
A tally type can be set to count toward check-in or to be informational only. Set this on the tally type when you create it.
Can I reuse the same tally types on another event?
Yes. A saved tally template can be applied to other events from the same design tool, so you don’t have to rebuild the same set of tally types each time.
